Kids with brain tumours will now have coordinated specialized care at a new Alberta Health Services clinic at the Stollery Children?s hospital in Edmonton.
Along with the coordinated approach to treatment, the new plan has been set up to provide consistency of care, allowing for nurses, patients and families to be better acquainted with one another.
?Before, there was never a consistent place to bring these kids who are not being admitted to hospital but who are on outpatient therapies, and who need some ongoing surveillance to monitor them,? said pediatric nurse practitioner, Karina Black, who oversees the new clinic. ?With our Tuesday afternoon clinic each week, we have consistency in both the timing and the people seeing our families.?
