Earlier this summer we got an email from a reader, Melody, who wanted to get a jump on fall cooking, especially soups. "I would like to know if you have a book to recommend just on soups," she said. "Not fancy soups but easy, simple ones." Do you have any good books (or other resources) to recommend to Melody? Here are two that I like...
When it comes to soup, I get inspired not just by recipes, but by the idea of certain combinations. I feel like soup doesn't need a lot of fussy technique ? I just want to be inspired by new ideas. These two books both do that.
? The Best Soups in the World by Clifford Wright
? Soup of the Day (Williams-Sonoma): 365 Recipes for Every Day of the Year by Kate McMillan
Wright's book introduced me to lots of soups from around the world! I loved reading about soups from Africa, the Middle East, and Eastern Europe. They tend to be longer recipes and more complicated, but they are inspiring. No photos, though.
The Williams-Sonoma book is a little more geared towards basic recipes, but it has so many more photos ? and they're really beautiful! It's one to browse visually.
Those are two I like a lot. What about you? What are your favorite books on soup and stews? Or do you like to get recipes online or from magazines? Which are your favorites?
