ASHEVILLE, N.C. (AP) ? Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney says the attacks in Libya are so serious because they mean terrorists successfully attacked the U.S. on the anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
Romney on Thursday criticized a remark from Obama spokeswoman Stephanie Cutter, who said that Romney and his running mate, Paul Ryan, are making the attacks on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi a political issue.
The attack killed four Americans, including Ambassador Chris Stevens.
Romney says, quote, "Mr. President, this is an issue because we were attacked successfully by terrorists on the anniversary of Sept. 11." His remark represents some of his strongest comments yet on the Libya attack.
Romney spoke during a rally in Asheville, N.C.
In response, the Obama campaign says Romney is trying to score "cheap political points."
