A Plainfield, Conn., man was sentenced Wednesday to 33 months in prison for stealing $348,000 from the disability charity where he served as chief financial officer, says? The Bulletin of Norwich, Conn.

William Lavimoniere, 52, pleaded guilty in May to fraud and tax charges in connection with the theft from Project Genesis, which provides services for disabled adults and children. He was also ordered to make full restitution to the charity and pay more than $176,000 to the Internal Revenue Service in unpaid taxes and interest on both the stolen funds and his legitimate income.

Prosecutors said Mr. Lavimoniere used the charity?s internal bookkeeping software to keep terminated employees on the payroll and transfer their wages to his own bank accounts and disguised additional electronic transfers to his accounts as payments to Project Genesis vendors or the U.S. Treasury.
